Do you know your own ring size? No? I help for You :)

Updated: Sep 22

When making a ring, it's super important to determine the correct ring size, because nobody wants a ring that's too tight or too loose, right?

Luckily, there are a few tried-and-true methods to find the perfect size.

Here are some options you can try, or if you come to me, I can measure it quickly and accurately!

1. Measuring by a Jeweler (like me!)

This is the best method because jewelers (like myself!) use professional tools to measure ring sizes. We use two things:

  • Ring sizer set: These are small metal rings in different sizes that we try on your finger to find the exact size.

  • Ring sizing mandrel: If you already have a ring, I can slide it onto a mandrel to check its size.

This is the most accurate method, and if your fingers tend to swell or shrink due to temperature changes, I’ll take that into account too!

2. Measuring at Home

If you don’t have time to visit me, you can measure your finger at home, though it won’t be as precise as a professional measurement.

Paper strip or string method

  • What to do:

    1. Take a thin paper strip or string.

    2. Wrap it around the base of your finger, where you would wear the ring.

    3. Mark the point where it meets, then measure it with a ruler.

    4. Use a sizing chart to find your ring size.

This is a quick method, but it’s not the most precise, especially if your finger is slightly uneven.

3. Measuring an Existing Ring

If you’re secretly making a ring as a gift (like an engagement ring!), and the person already has a ring that fits the same finger, you can use that to find the right size!

  • What to do:

    1. Get hold of a ring that fits the desired finger.

    2. Measure its inner diameter with a ruler or caliper and use a sizing chart to find the size.

This is a quick and accurate solution if you have a well-fitting ring available.

4. Finger Size Changes

Finger sizes can change a bit throughout the day, depending on temperature or how much water you’ve had to drink. So, it’s worth keeping a few things in mind:

  • When to measure: It’s best to measure in the middle of the day when your finger size is most stable.

  • Avoid morning measurements! Your fingers might be a little swollen in the morning.

  • Avoid cold temperatures: The cold can make your fingers shrink, giving you a smaller size than usual.

5. Special Cases: Advice from a Professional

If you're making a special ring, like a wider band, or if your joints are slightly larger than the base of your finger, it’s worth choosing a slightly larger size or considering more flexible designs. I can help with this too!

Conclusion

Getting the right ring size is one of the most important steps in ring-making. If you want to be sure, it’s always better to come to me, and I can measure your finger accurately. But if you're trying it at home, these methods can help you avoid a ring that's too loose or too tight!
